Ridin in a winter wonderland

Postby Toblerone » 04 Dec 2011, 19:43

Had another nice little rideout (adveture) today. Me, Carleton and Mellis, the plan was: Ladybower then over't Snake Pass onto Manchester then home via the Woodhead Pass and Holme Moss. But best laid plans an all that  .

Got to ladybower stopped for a hot chocolate and a chat, ok bit cold an wet but happy enough. Set off over't Snake and got about half way over before, i started to notice a bit of snow in't verges thought ok must have snowed overnight but roads are clear so carried on.

Then come across a line of slush down the middle of the road, so then i start looking for a place to pull over and see what Mellis and Carleton thought of the weather and road conditions. By the time i found a suitable place to pull over the road was coverd in snow a few centimeters thick .

Whilst stood deciding our next move we spot a mountain rescue team at the top of the hill so we wander up, and it turns out there are a number of cars come off the road and the police were on thier way to close the road. So we stay a while and wait for the police to turn up, by this time we were all freezing and sodden.

So the police arrive and proceed to close the road we leave the bikes running and help the police by pushing cars up't hill and then walk down the queue and start telling drivers to turn round.

So we get all the cars cleared away then its just us and a copper in a freelander, struggling to decide what to do we finaly decided to slowly and cautiously follow the copper back down towards lady bower.

From there the roads were just wet so we carried on towards home, decide to take the low road home from Hathersage , turns out to be a good choice as we can see a mountain rescue team rescuing a car thats come unstuck from the high road.

All in all a very interesting, exciting and freezing day but we all enjoyed it and got out safely and happily.

McGregor and Boorman eat your heart out, the Sub 125cc section of the SYB rule

Pictures to follow.

Whattt, wish it was like that over here, not exactly far away from there but it's just been wet and depressing all day! No way my bike is coming out in this weather, although I rode my moped in all weather last year - snowy car parks were fun!

Brings back memories of last year when I got caught in it twice on the work bike! Probably fun on a 125, but a loaded BMW RT was a right pig......

Toblerone, out of interest did you ride in the tracks of the cars or in the thicker snow? Reason I ask is that someone once told me to ride in the tracks of the cars, but last year I stuck to the fresh snow and it gave loads more grip!

A bit of snow with a RT? No problem! Not really by choice though...I blame Denis and his go anywhere GS!!!
I prefer to ride on the fresh stuff as long as I know it is on the road, not off it!!!!
