Rideout Wednesday 28th

Postby supadave » 22 Jul 2010, 16:32

Anyone fancy a rideout on Wednesday 28th, coming back Thursday 29th next week?
I will be leaving Sheffield early Wednesday morning and going up to Aberfeldy, in Perth and Kinross. Camping overnight, having a few beers in the town (village) may get drunk, may not, then back home on Thursday. Planning to be home for mid to late afternoon.
Its 320ish miles each way and I will not be touching any motorways at all, unless I have an emergency and have to use one.
The pace will be brisk, keeping between 70mph and 90mph wherever safe to do so.
One word of warning if you want to tag along, I don't stop very often. Saying that, my bike needs fuel every 130 miles.
I dont use sat nav either, so expect a few detours :) Could be as long as 8 hours each day.

Basic route is up the A19, the A68, ring road around Edinburgh, over the Forth Rd Bridge, into Dunfermline, A823 and A822.
Weather looks ok aswel :thumb:

I did this ride last year and really enjoyed it. Aberfeldy is a lovely little town with a few lovely little bars. I will be camping but if you want to stay in the Hotel or get B and B feel free.

Anyone is welcome to tag along, Im going anyway :D

Would love to go on it but I can't afford to do 600 plus miles on the x7, fuel stops every 70 odd mile for almost 3 gallon, put that againest your enfield at 1000 miles for a teacup o fuel.

I am only a millionaire, not a multi-millionaire which is why it's going on ebay as, like a page 3 girl needs a sugar daddy, it needs someone with a bigger wallet.

I just have to admit, i sit and think about the MPG and speed and say it's not worth it, then I ride it and I wanna keep it, sod the negatives

Had a great trip :thumb:
I left at 8.45am Wednesday morning and headed over to Donny to pick the A19 up, steady run all the way up to my lunch stop at Carter Bar which is the border with Scotland. What a view that is, Im sure I could make Edinburgh out in the distance..45 miles away.........is that possible?
Arrived in Aberfeldy at 3.45pm.........good run was really tramming on at some points, over run a few bends :naughty: just through too much speed really. Had to keep telling myself to slow down, but the roads were brilliant and I was having too much fun.
Quick shower, 2 bottles of Black Sheep and a glass of Glenfiddich and Im ready to hit the town. I can recommend the Black Watch Inn, its got a few real ales on and the locals are very welcoming. Haggis and chips on the way back to campsite.......yummy.

Set off back at 10am in the morning, but decided to take the long way back. So went across country following Loch Tay to Dunoon and caught the ferry. Followed the west coast down through Larggs and onto Kilmarnoch.
After kilmarnock I had had a few more moments of telling myself to slow down. Obviously didnt listen to myself.....................As I crested a brow of a hill the road in front looked awsome, I could see for about a mile, there was a bridge about 300 yards away with a S bend over it, left then right covered in Shellgrip :thumb: :thumb:
Im gonna nail this baby............lefthander ok........righthander okish.........sh*t this is getting tight........more lean.....MORE LEAN..................    . Down I went........bugger.
Damage to bike is not too bad just a bit of paint really and a bent rear brake lever. Having now tested R&G crash bungs in a real life situation I would say BUY SOME :thumb:

Apart from that...........pretty uneventful 700 miles really

Whoes coming on next blast?

sorry to hear of the spill and im glad your ok and could ride home without bits hanging off you or the bike. Dont know the places you mentioned except Killmarnock as my Birmingham mate's dad lives there and he rides overland from the top and down to the town he says its a long way to go if you miss the ferry. He says Saturday night is like magic roundabout with the local youths driving a small circuit around the area and the same six cars passing the pub every 20 mins

Is the longest distance covered in 1 day?..................................I did 320 miles to Aberfeldy. I could of carried on if I knew what Premo has covered. Do I get bonus points for doing it on a sports bike? :D
